Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition 14-Piece Set
August 30, 2008
A great gift for the newlywed or college graduate setting up their first apartment, especially if they’re lovers of steak or grilled meats, this 14-piece set contains the blades most commonly used in the everyday kitchen. It includes two three-inch paring knives for trimming, peeling, and dicing fruits and vegetables; a five-inch utility knife for cutting sandwiches and slicing meats; and a six-inch chef’s knife for all-purpose tasks from mincing garlic to chopping vegetables and herbs. Rounding out the set are eight 4-1/2-inch steak knives, indispensable for slicing and properly presenting everyone’s favorite cut of meat. Also included are an eight-inch sharpening steel and an attractive hardwood storage block to store and protect knives.
Chicago Cutlery’s Walnut Tradition line of cutlery combines high performance with excellent value. Stamped rather than forged for lighter weight and a more reasonable price, the blades are made from high-carbon, 420 stainless steel with carbon to keep edges sharper longer and chromium to resist rust and stains, while Chicago’s exclusive Taper Grind edge produces impressively precise slices and retains its sharpness well over time. A full tang extends from the tip of the knife to the end of the handle for improved balance and strength. Comfortable walnut handles offer the rich warmth of wood and a classic look; they’re securely held to the blade with triple-compression brass rivets for added safety and stability. Chicago Cutlery covers their knives with a lifetime guarantee; they recommend hand-washing and drying for best results. –Mary Park

Customer Review: Nice Starter Set
This set was a gift, a nice gift and terrific starter set for beginners in the kitchen or for persons who do an ocassional prep. Easy to use, nice craftsmanship, and very reasonable price for a quality name. A bread knife would have been terrific addition to the block set but all in all, feel free to get this set for that young couple or child who is moving into their own place for the first time. I am happy with it, besides it was a gift.
Customer Review: Not for real cooks
This set was very disappointing. The knives are light and flimsy. The blades are very small to tiny. Instead of eight steak knives they should have tossed in a bread knive or something. The best thing about this set is the wood block. These would be ok for a “small” person that doesn’t do much meal prep with knives. I gave this set to my daughter as soon as I opened the box. Look elsewhere folks. buy from here…

Customer Review: Can’t wait to go camping!
I received “The Beginner’s Guide to Camping” for Christmas along with a lot of other camping equipment. I wasn’t planning on watching it until we were ready to go camping. Then I heard the kids giggling in the other room. They were watching it, so I sat down and joined them. It was very amusing, and very informative. I expecially liked the tip on keeping some of the ice in the cooler in a Ziploc bag to keep it clean for drinks. I’m sure I’ll watch it again before our trip this summer, but now I actually think we’re going to do it right and have a good time. buy from here…
The Zero Boys
August 30, 2008
When a trio of weekend survivalists (known as “The Zero Boys”) and their girlfriends take a leisure trip into the mountains, they discover the most gruesome massacre in history. Forced to defend themselves against murderous rednecks, the Zero Boys must do what they do best–destroy the enemy.
Customer Review: Rambo meets Deliverance
“The Zero Boys” was one of the more creative slasher films of the 80’s. A trio of Paint Ball players and their girlfriends are pursued by sinister forces at an isolated forest house. It seems somebody’s been using the house as a torture chamber and our heroes don’t intend on being the next victims.
What sets “The Zero Boys” apart from the endless supply of 80’s slasher films is that the protagonists don’t just wait around to be killed. They’re heavily armed and not afraid to unleash their firepower. This is apparently where Nico Mastorakis pays homage to(or steals from, depending upon how you see it) the ever popular Rambo films. At times this resembles a war movie, but the main focus of “The Zero Boys” is to be a horror film.
Though far from perfect, there’s so much to recommend about this movie. The director excels at building tension once the Paintballers arrive at the house. Once the horror starts, we’re never sure what direction it’s going to go. The villians’ motives are never explained, but that actually works in the film’s favor. They come across as sportsmen in the game of torture to counter the heroic Paintballers. Definitely worth a look.
Customer Review: GOOD AND BAD
This is another DVD Nico Mastorakis has “remastered” and put in his “2003 Collection.” The image and sound quality is good. Others have mentioned different versions. The newest(and best?) has “2003 Collection” near the title on the cover. The acting in this film is generally bad with exceptions. The the story is generally good with exceptions. The ending did suprise me.
Mastorakis’s modus operandi is to make films that are not garbage but are not great. One last caveat. This DVD is not worth the Amazon price. You can pick this up from other vendors for 2/3 the price. buy from here…
Garmin 010-10085-00 DC Power Adapter
August 30, 2008
Save batteries and end meaningless stops at convenience stores for replacements when you power your Garmin GPS device with this handy cigarette-lighter power adapter. The adapter fits all standard cigarette lighters and works with a range of GPS devices, including the GPS StreetPilot (Monochrome and ColorMap), GPS II+, GPS III+, GPS 12XL, GPS 12CX, GPS 12MAP, GPS V, GPS 76, GPSMAP 76, GPSMAP 176, and GPSMAP 176C.
Customer Review: It Fits the Garmin 60CSx
I don’t know what those of you who claim this is the wrong adapter for the Garmin 60 series are talking about. I bought one for my 60CSx and it works perfectly and I love not having to burn through the AA batteries while I’m in my FJ.
If you want a car adapter for your Garmin 60CSx series GPS unit, this is the one for you.
Customer Review: charger

SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea
August 28, 2008
The SAS Survival Handbook is the Special Air Service’s complete course in being prepared for any type of emergency. John ‘Lofty’ Wiseman presents real strategies for surviving in any type of situation, from accidents and escape procedures, including chemical and nuclear to successfully adapting to various climates (polar, tropical, desert), to identifying edible plants and creating fire. The book is extremely practical and is illustrated throughout with easy-to-understand line art and diagrams.
Customer Review: great survival guide. nothing to do with SAS besides the author
great survival handbook. not a issue SAS Field Manual like the US Army Survival Field Manual put out by the Department of Defense and issued to US Army soldiers in mountain survival school.
Customer Review: Survive- anywhere.
No need for a long review here. This book was written by a professional soldier who was in the SAS, or the Special Air Service. For those not in the know, that’s an elite unit of the British Army trained to carry out operations in ALL parts of the world. Eventually, the author became a survival instructor to the SAS, so you can be sure that this guy knows his stuff.
The book covers all you’d ever want to know about the essentials of surviving in climates such as: the polar region, mountains, seashores, islands, tropical regions, or even at sea. Here’s few of the many topics the book covers:
-food, what you can and can’t eat
-animal tracking with numerous pics
-color pics of edible plants
-pictures of traps and how to trap things
-how to handle animals you’ve killed for food
-how to make a camp and various shelters
-knot tying pics
-first aid
-color pics of medicinal plants
-picures of dangerous/poisonous critters
-things to have in a survival kit
A very handy resource for anybody who enjoys outdoor/wilderness activities, it’s just a darn good thing to have around in case of emergencies- or even just to look at the pictures! Also recommend Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff if you have a shoulder problem that is interfering with your outdoor activities.

SteriPEN Adventurer Handheld Water Purifier
August 28, 2008
Great for hiking and camping, this handheld water purifier destroys viruses, bacteria, and common protozoa. It weighs just 3.6 ounces with two non-rechargeable, disposable batteries (included) and purifies 16 ounces of water in 48 seconds, or 32 ounces in 90 seconds. The purifier employs ultraviolet light (UV) to destroy the DNA of microorganisms, making them unable to reproduce and cause illness. It’s effective against outdoor microbes like giardia and cryptosporidium; pathogens that cause diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and Legionnaire’s Disease; household germs such as bird flu, E. coli, and salmonella; staph and strep; and natural-disaster risks like botulism, cholera, smallpox, and typhoid.
No pumping, no chemicals, no test strips, no timekeeping, no lubricating, and no replacement filters are required. All that is required is to push the water purifier’s button (once for 32 ounces, twice for 16 ounces), place the pen-like lamp in clear water, and stir until an indicator light turns green. Water has no aftertaste after being purified. Measuring 6.1 inches long, the purifier comes with a nylon case and a user’s guide. It exceeds U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for testing microbiological water purifiers.
Customer Review: Have not used
The pen seems to work properly, but I have not tested it on raw water as yet.
Customer Review: Lightweight but doesn’t like the cold
Having read elsewhere that the Adventurer was hard on batteries but most people were using rechargeables, I decided to do my own testing using Panasonic Lithium Photo batteries. Thus far I have gotten about 20 liters of purification over a period of 6 days. The only time I have encountered any problems is in cold. For the first test I put the pen in the refrigerator for about 3 hours and tried to use it but it only flashed the red light saying the battery was too weak. After warming it up for 5 minutes with body heat, it performed fine. Another time I left it outside 40F for a few hours and tried it but had the same problem. Again, after warming with body heat the unit worked fine.
I was looking forward to using the Adventurer in the winter when filters freeze and chemicals take way too long. After these tests it is obvious that I will have to keep it warm or warm it up before I use it. I think it must really require a big “shot” of power and it is necessary that the batteries are warm to be able to do this.
